Create blog posts that answer the most interesting questions from people you engage with on social media.
We all learn to crawl before we can walk. Getting started with WordPress can be really overwhelming at first.
When I started created a blog post in WordPress, it seemed too hard and was a big challenge, especially for someone like me who isn’t very tech-savvy. But eventually I learned and now have been constantly contributing to our Blogs section.
One of the biggest lessons I learned in WordPress blog posts is to keep it minutes read-time length. It has to be short enough to be interesting, but long enough to cover the subject. Keeping it short and sharp then could be worthwhile.
Here are my Top 8 WordPress Blog Posts Best Practices
1. Captivating Headlines
Headline is very often the first thing people will see. It should be interesting enough to make people want to read rest of the post.
No matter how great your content is, it won’t matter unless you have an amazing headline. People have a split second to decide if they should click on your post, and your headline will make them decide.
The headline is also essential in making it easy and desirable for people to share your post.
2. Using High Quality and Optimized Images
A picture in a blog post is good way to break up a mass of text. A featured image in WordPress will find its place under the spotlights of your homepage.
They are used as thumbnails which represent the entire post. By selecting a featured image for a post, you can set the entire tone of your story.
The image should reflect what the story is about, attract readers. It shouldn’t be too literal or obvious, and it can simply be aesthetically pleasing, too.
However, just make sure to post high resolution and appropriate images. When you’re blogging for your company like I am, there’s an “image” you need to protect.
3. Introduction
The introduction needs to quickly hook your reader and convince them to read the rest of your blog post.
It also has to let the reader know what your post is about whether your approach is interesting and surprising facts, or asking a question, find a way to make the first lines of your blog posts as attention-grabbing as possible.
4. Start with a Working Title
Brainstorm how to make the title as interesting as possible. This is also one of the most important things of blogging where you start with a general topic and narrow down exactly what you want to write about that topic.
5. A Well Defined concept
The concept of blog posts is something that the reader notices immediately when he or she comes to the site. It immediately tells them what your site is about and what value they can expect to get from it.
When the concept of your posts is catchy and grasps the attention of the visitor, he or she is much more likely to stay on your blog longer.
6. Marketing Angle
The most common mistake I made as a beginner is not using the right marketing angle. Marketing Angles are one of the most important aspects in a blog post.
Angles are how you approach your blog posts on a higher level. And it’s one of the easiest to incorporate. Marketing effectively can take time, practice, and a lot of testing.
7. Using Good Tags
Tags provide a useful way to group related posts together and to quickly tell readers what a post is about. Tags also make it easier for people to find your content.
In my earlier days of blogging, the importance of tags has eluded me. But now, I know better. Tags make it easy for your readers to find your posts on your website.
8. Conclusion
When you’re ready to wrap up and sign off, make sure to let your reader know the article is closing. Your conclusion doesn’t need to be lengthy, but it should serve to recap the blog post the reader just finished and provide more resources and guidance. Make it short, be real, provide disclaimers, summarize the posts and ask a question.
As a beginner, post blog consistently, and get loyal readers.
Becoming a good blogger takes time, a lot of practice and repetition. And remember, focusing more on good content creation is just as important as getting your blog posts listed and indexed on popular search engines.
