History of Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology

The Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT) started as a settlement known as Manobo Farm School for the people for upper Agusan in 1908, to provide basic education and upgrade their farming skills.

It later became the Bunawan National Agricultural School on June 17, 1948 through R.A. 301 sponsored by former congressman Marcos L. Calo.

On June 21, 1969 it was changed into Southern Agusan National Agricultural College by virtue of R.A. 5917 passed by former Congressman Jose C. Aquino.

In 1974- 1975, the college offered the two-year Post –Secondary Agricultural Technician Curriculum which was subsequently realigned to the ladderized type Diploma in Agricultural Technology leading to a four-year Bachelor of Agriculture and Technology (DAT-BAT).

Commencing the first semester of school year 1992-1993, two(2) additional courses were offered: a) Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSed) major in Technology and Home Economics (TH..E.) and b) Bachelor of Elementary Education(B.E.ed) with concentration in work Education (DECS ORDER NO. 88 s. 1992).

On the same year, Congressman Ceferino S. Paredes, Jr. sponsored to the Batasang Pambansa House Bill 1432 for the conversion of SANAC into a state college which was also endorsed by Senator Edgardo J. Angara through Senate Bill No. 1690.

On March 1, 1995, it was signed by Fidel V. Ramos by Virtue of RA 7932 converting SANAC into Agusan Del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology.

Insights from Student Interns…

As an Information Technology student from Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology, I can say that our school is a great school to study whatever major you want to. The instructors are there to help improve our knowledge in computer with their patience and hard work.

In my first year as a BSIT student, the learning did exceed my expectations. As one of my instructors said, “Be resourceful” and I realized that everything is provided like having an internet, the solution is just to search & to never stop learning.

I may have challenges and struggles in my school journey. I am willing to face it & do my best to become a successful person someday.

School & life are just  like a roller coaster. It has ups and downs. But it’s your choice to scream or enjoy the ride.

ASSCAT (OSOmnimedia Intern, 2019)

As an Information Technology student, I never thought that this course would be very hard and would give me headaches. I also heard some negative insights from the past IT students that this course is not easy and will make your life stressful.

As the year passed by I realized that this course is not just about how good in computer you are but it’s about testing your patience on how long you can stand it,

Being a strong person and to have strategies and answers on every task or challenge that was given to me even though it will be tough but as long as I believe in myself that I can do it and to continue to be determined to give my best to achieve something, I know that I can achieve it!

It will be a tough journey for me and the failure and success will become my partner in life that will nurture me to become a successful person someday.

Taking an IT course is very challenging as it is one of the most difficult courses in our school. I have already encountered many challenges that include sleepless nights just to finish a project. I know it’s worth it because I learned from all of it.

Experience is the best teacher. And speaking of teacher, I would also recognize all my instructors that have guided and motivated me through my school journey. They did not only teach us but also prepared us for our future.

The school is my second home because they help students aim better grades, to be disciplined & strive to become successful students.
