From its humble beginnings on August 21, 1983 as a computer training center with only two campuses, STI now has campuses all over the Philippines and has diversified into ICT-enhanced programs in Information Technology, Business and Management, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Engineering, and Arts and Sciences.

It all started when four visionaries conceptualized setting up a training center to fill very specific manpower needs.

It was in the early ‘80s when Augusto C. Lagman, Herman T. GamboaBenjamin A. Santos, and Edgar H. Sarte — four entrepreneurs came together to set up Systems Technology Institute (STI), a training center that delivers basic programming education to professionals and students who want to learn this new skill.

Systems Technology Institute’s name came from countless brainstorming sessions among the founders, perhaps from Sarte’s penchant for three-letter acronyms from the companies he managed at the time.

The first two schools were inaugurated in August 21, 1983 in Buendia, Makati and in España, Manila, and offered basic computer programming courses. With a unique and superior product on their hands, it was not difficult to expand the franchise through the founders’ business contacts. A year after the first two schools opened, the franchise grew to include STI Binondo, Cubao, and Taft.

A unique value proposition spelled the difference for the STI brand then: “First We’ll Teach You, Then We’ll Hire You.” Through its unique Guaranteed Hire Program (GHP), all qualified graduates were offered jobs by one of the founders’ companies, or through their contacts in the industry.

No one among the four founders imagined that the Systems Technology Institute would become a college, or would grow to have over 100 schools across the country. But it did, all because of its unique value proposition, the synergy between the founders and their personnel, and the management’s faithfulness to quality.

A long way since its birth, STI’s thrust has permeated right into the core of the globally competitive market — it has transcended beyond ICT and beyond education, addressing the need for job-ready graduates.

Insights from Student Interns…

My four years as a student at STI has given me a chance to sharpen my skills in my field of choice. Despite having bigger responsibilities, more complicated projects, back-to-back reports / requirements and no end of homework’s / quizzes, I remained positive! My bond with my friends and classmates has helped me survive all of the time-sacrificing, brain-drying activities and thesis papers.

My accomplishments and experiences at this school, including the NCII of Computer Hardware and Services, Tagisan ng Talino, being one of the Yearbook Staff and a Business Manager in SSC (Supreme Student Council) has taught me a lot but also made me realize that there’s still a lot to learn.

My experience in college, particularly in the Programming Activities, has also allowed me to gain more knowledge and exposed to the full range of courses from java, Data Structures, C++ to Operating Systems, Network Technology, Multimedia System and Web Programming. For four semester under the guidance of my professors and with the help of my co – member, we made thesis papers / studies like online quiz bee, reservation system, enrolment system, and food ordering and booking. Through these projects, I was able to discover my strong desire to strive and dream for my success. The challenging academic environment propelled me to innovate and experiment.

In summary, my time in college has enriched my life in many ways. It has provided me with the necessary tools to enhance my skills more, taught me valuable knowledge about this innovative world, people and concepts in general and eventually will enable me to hopefully become more successful in life when I finally graduate and get my degree. All these aspects of college have also made me well – formed as a person. It has been easier for me to achieve these opportunities. These experiences are truly irreplaceable and I would not trade them for anything.

From my experience for all those year I would say, “The life of a College student is way too different than the High School life, it presents as reality”

Ever since, it’s always been my goal to learn about programming, that’s why I enrolled in STI College Zamboanga. STI is known as a Computer Institute where we can learn a lot like computer hardware, programming and designing. My experiences as a student for almost 4 years are all good as I’ve met new friends that I share experiences with. Based on my experience in STI, people know me more as a designer and a programmer in our school as I’ve created logos, tarpaulins and some after effects designs.

I became a facilitator at school who teaches students how to do creative designs. In my first year, I joined STI’s logo design competition and won the title as a champion.

But Programming has always been what I wanted to learn at STI and so far, the school has given me the opportunity to learn C++, Visual Basic, Web Developing and Android Application.

STI College Zamboanga is an institute that offers Computer literacy studies like Information Technology, and that kind of environment gives us the opportunity to improve not just in the field that we choose, but also allows us to develop self confidence which is needed in our everyday life. Our school not just offers educational learning but also give many social activities that we may able to develop our skills, talents and opportunities to learn and grow more.

It also has difficulty in terms of thinking critically and asking questions in many situations. I learned a little of web programming like PHP & HTML. It was a learning experience for me and also at that time I got a three months training program NCII 2D Flash Animation from TESDA.

As a student in STI College, it gives me excitement to look forward to the things and opportunities that would come for me after my college.
